Matthias Hollwich is principal of HOLLWICHKUSHNER, LLC, a New York City based architecture and concept design firm. He is also co-founder of Architizer, a social networking platform connecting architects via their designs.
His office deploys targeted research and fast-footed development to create innovative and responsible projects that exist at the intersection of client, user, and nature. This year, HWKN developed the website Architizer, a social networking platform connecting architects via their designs. Before co-founding HWKN, Matthias worked in several internationally acclaimed architectural firms and urban design studios, including: OMA, (Rotterdam), Eisenman Architects and Diller+Scofidio, (New York). Presently Matthias is a visiting professor at the University of Pennsylvania, where he is working on a series of courses and symposia on “New Aging”, a reinvention of architecture for the elderly. In 2004, he finished editing his first book with Rainer Weisbach at the Bauhaus: UmBauhaus – Updating Modernism. His work has been featured in Wallpaper*, ArchPLUS, MAX, Bauwelt, Dwell, and Architectural Digest. He most recently took part in the PICNIC lecture series in Amsterdam and is a contributor to the forthcoming IBA Urban Redevelopment program for the Dessau region. Matthias is driven by the aim to upgrade man-made environments on a human, engaging scale with an ECONIC twist.
