Why are there so few protagonists of color in science ficton fantasy films? What if more speculative and science fiction writings by people of color were available at the local cineplex? These are some of the questions posed by critcally-acclaimed African American independent cinema pioneer Ayoka Chenzira in her talk about creativity, and the art of the possible in speculative fiction and scifi fantasy.
Ayoka’s films span fiction, documentary, animation, and interactive cinema. Many are included in the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Schoenberg Center for Research in Black Culture and others worldwide.
